Raven
Worshipped as a bird of the gods and bearer of truth, slandered as a bird of death, predator and nest plunderer, man has pursued the common raven right up to the present day. The fact that it has not been wiped out is due to its intelligence and ability to learn. No one can find a carcass so quickly, even vultures and foxes follow its flight. It is also a clever hunter that overpowers its prey with targeted strokes of its powerful beak. It learns the feeding techniques of its conspecifics by observing them. Its adaptability allows it to utilise a wide variety of habitats and food sources. The largest corvid is also the largest representative of the songbirds! It has a sound inventory of individually learnt calls and sounds, into which environmental noises and human words are also incorporated. When common ravens mate, they even learn the calls of their partner. The pair is already formed in young birds, after which they stay together for life. Such fidelity is rare in the animal kingdom!
- Common ravens are very intelligent. They can even be taught to speak individual sentences.
