A big and exciting project is imminent at the Alpine Zoo: our moose enclosure is getting a makeover! The renovation work will start next month to provide our moose with a more modern home in future. To ensure that the construction phase is as calm and stress-free as possible for the animals, our familiar elk couple - the gentle giant Luke and his curious partner Ronja - will be relocated to Zveropark in Slovakia, which is very much looking forward to their arrival.
The construction work should be completed by the spring of next year. The Alpine Zoo will then start with a new pair of young moose from two different zoos, selected as part of European conservation breeding programmes.
Visitors who would like to see Luke and Ronja again have the opportunity to do so up to and including 15 December. On 16 December, the two will embark on their big trip to Slovakia.
